Paneer Jalfrezi Recipe | How to make Paneer Jalfrezi



Paneer Jalfrezi is a Calcutta dish originally. This dish has been very popular outside of Indian, specially in Britain. Paneer Jalfrezi is very easy and quick preparation. It is prepared with a mix of vegetables and paneer. The vegetables which is popularly used to prepare Paneer Jalfrezi are baby corn, capsicum, onion and tomato.  

Paneer Jalfrezi is a mild spicy dish. Unlike other Indan Paneer dish preparation, tomato ketchup is used to prepare Paneer Jalfrezi and that makes a little different from other Indian Paneer dish.  

I have used baby corn, capsicum, onion and tomato to prepare Paneer Jalfrezi. There are different recipes for Paneer Jalfrezi in which other vegetables can also be added while preparing it.  Here is the complete recipe for Paneer Jalfrezi.

Recipe Details : Paneer Jalfrezi

Ingredients for Paneer Jalfrezi


  • Paneer / Cottage Cheese : 250 gm
  • Onion : 1 (finely chopped)
  • Tomato : 1 (paste)
  • Baby Corn : 1 cup (long trips )
  • Carrot : 2 cups (long strips)
  • Capsicum : 1 cup (long strips)
  • Tomato Ketchup : 1 tbsp
  • Ginger : 1/2 inch (grated)
  • Garlic : 4 - 5 clove (grated)
  • Cumin Seeds : 1 tsp
  • Coriander Powder : 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric Powder : 1/4 tsp
  • Red Chilli Powder : 1/4 tsp (adjust to taste)
  • Water : 1 + 1/2 cup
  • Oil : 1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste


  • How to make Paneer Jalfrezi

    Heat oil in a pan. Throw cumin seeds in it. When they crackle, add chopped onion in  it. Fry till onion is translucent / light pink. 
    Now add grated ginger and garlic in it. Cook till the ra smell of ginger garlic is gone.



    Now add dry spices turmeric powder, red chilli powder in it. Mix well and cook for 30 seconds on low flames. 
    Add baby corn in it. Mix well and cook for 2 minutes. 



    Now add chopped capsicum and carrot in it. Cook for 2 - 3 minutes on low flames.
    Now add tomato puree / paste in it. Stir and cook till tomato is cooked completely and start separating from the oil. 



    Now add tomato ketchup in it. Add salt and cook for 30 seconds on low flames.
    Now add paneer cubes in it. Mix well and cook further for 2 - 3 minutes.


    Paneer Jalfrezi is ready. Serve it hot.
