Lauki Pakora Recipe | How to make Lauki Pakora

Lauki Pakoras are quick and easy dish to prepare. Lauki is a healthy food which can be consumed as sabzi, curry, raita, kheer, barfi, paratha and thepla as well. Pakora is another lauki recipe which is very easy to make at home.

Lauki kofta or Lauki Pakora is almost same recipe. Lauki Kofta is prepared to make Lauki Kofta curry

Lauki Pakora is prepared just like any other pakora recipe. Other pakora recipe here are aloo pakora, pyaaz pakora, sabudana vada, batata vada, bread pakora, egg pakora, fish pakora, paneer pakora and aloo bread pakora.

This recipe has red chilli powder. Most of the times I do not add any chilli if it is for kids. If you wish to make Lauki Pakora for kids and your kids like a little spicy, please adjust the spices accordingly.

In this recipe, Corn flour is added to the batter. Corn flour makes the pakora crisp. We can use rice flour instead of corn flour. Here is the complete recipe for Lauki Pakora.

Ingredients for Lauki Pakora

  • Lauki  : 1 cup (grated)
  • Gram Flour : 2/3 cup
  • Onion :  1/2 (chopped)
  • Green Chilli (optional) : 2 (finley chopped)
  • Ginger Garlic Paste : 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Carom Seeds : 1 tsp
  • Coriander Powder : 1 tsp
  • Red Chilli Powder : 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric Powder : 1/4 tsp
  • Garam Masala : 1/2 tsp
  • Baking Powder : 1/4 tsp
  • Corn Flour : 1 tbsp
  • Oil/ Ghee : to fry lauki pakora
  • How to make Lauki Pakora

  • Mix gram flour / besan, corn flour, baking powder, salt, garam masala, coriander powder, asafoetida, cumin seeds, turmeric and red chilli powder.
  • Mix grated bottle gourd in it.
  • Add chopped onion and green chilli in it.
  • Add water to make thick batter for lauki pakora.
  • Heat oil in a pan / kadahi.
  • Drop lauki pakora batter with a spoon slowly in medium hot oil.
  • Fry lauki pakora till it is golden brown in color.
  • Drain the excess oil from Lauki pakora and keep aside.
  • Repeat the process for rest of the batter.
  • Lauki pakora is ready.
  • Serve it hot with chutney or sauce.

    In a bowl, mix gram flour, corn flour, baking powder, salt, garam masala, coriander powder, asafoetida, cumin seeds, turmeric and red chilli powder. Mix well.

    Now add grated lauki in it. Mix well.

    Add water to make a thick batter. The batter for Lauki Pakora should not be thin or watery. It should be thick but dropping consistency. 

    Heat oil in a kadahi and leave lauki batter in medium hot oil with the help of a spoon. Leave it slowly in oil.

    Fry Lauki Pakoras till it becomes golden brown in color. Drain excess oil from pakoras and place on a soaking paper to absorbs oil. 

    Lauki Pakora is ready. Serve it hot with ketchup or chutney.
